A poem by Gabriel Mattix

Pain is what I know.
Pain is what I see.
Pain is what I hear.
It’s what I feel inside of me.
When I peer outside my window.
When I step outside my door.
Pain is always waiting,
Even when I say ‘no more’.
Some people, they look happy.
Some people, they look bored.
But of one thing I am certain,
They too, pain is coming for.
This life it is uncertain.
In life nothing is sure.
But of one thing I am certain,
It’s not just pain,
There’s more.
There is One who came and suffered.
There is One who came, that’s sure.
He bled and died for sinners,
And through His pain,
We have more.
There’s more to life than anguish.
There’s more to life than pain.
Because Jesus died and suffered,
His glory is our gain.
Now pain is our companion.
No pain no gain they say.
Because Jesus resurrected,
Pain draws us to Him again.
This life is tough and rocky.
This life is short and poor.
But through Jesus’ resurrection,
There’s more to life,
Much more.
One day we will be resurrected,
And Him face to face we’ll gain.
Though the road is rough and rocky,
There’s glory through the shame.
Now pain is not my story.
Pain is not all I know.
Jesus wrote my story,
And in pain I’ll only grow.
