A poem by Gabriel Mattix
The darkness that rules,
This earth we live on.
Smothers and stifles,
Any hint of new dawn.
When anyone rises,
They are quickly put down.
They are tied up, kicked,
And shoved in the ground.
But one day,
The Word said, ‘Enough!’.
He took on flesh,
To come down to the rough.
Humbly He descended,
In glorious might.
The Light Himself,
Came down to fight.
But He came not,
With buckler and sword.
Though rich and mighty,
Willingly He came poor.
He set aside,
His splendor and strength.
Though crowned Lord of heaven,
He joined in our rank.
He, the Light,
Who never knew sin;
Came down from above,
To battle and win.
The darkness; it raged,
When faced with the Son.
As He came down in meekness,
To bring hope with the dawn.
The dawn of His kingdom;
A new world and new life.
A victorious King,
Who conquers darkness with light.
Although the darkness,
Frothed and raged,
It could not subdue Him,
He rose in three days.
‘The Word became flesh,
And dwelt among us’ you know.
He came with grace and truth,
To rescue us from death’s woe.
To do this He shared,
With us in our pain.
He came not to condemn,
But to rescue from flame.
We, His children,
Have wandered and strayed.
But we He has rescued,
Now to us He has claim.
The darkness that rules,
This earth is now done.
Its reign is vanquished,
Head crushed by the Son.
Our great King Jesus,
Is an all consuming Light.
So repent of the darkness,
And trust in His might.
