Dust and Ashes

All we see around us,

Will soon be dust and ashes.

Here today, gone tomorrow,

Every blooming flower passes

Every stream will be muddied.

Every forest will be burned.

Nothing on this earth,

Will avoid death’s turn.

We kid ourselves when we say,

“I’ve accomplished much today.”

What is your work?

What is your life?

Once you’ve passed on,

The slate will be wiped.

Of us, this earth,

Will remember not.

Everything we’ve built,

Will crumble and rot.

What is the purpose?

What does it matter?

Can we transcend the temporal,

And ascend Jacob’s ladder?

Ascend we cannot,

But One has come down.

Jesus humbly descended,

To raise us from the ground.

Fully human,

And fully divine;

For Him our hearts,

Were made to pine.

He lived the life,

We never could.

Though we deserve death,

In our place He stood.

Now although,

We wither and fade,

By trust in Him,

We’re eternally made.

Life lived for Him,

Is never past.

What’s done for Him,

Will eternally last.

While earthly treasures,

Crumble to dust,

Work for Jesus,

Will never rust.

It’s sin that caused,

All this decay.

But our Lord came,

To give a better way.

When we trust in Him,

Everything we do,

Will be used by Him,

And made eternally new.

Our toil and striving,

On this earth,

When done for Jesus,

Has eternal worth.

Whatever we do,

Must be done in love.

As we follow the example,

From above.

He’s building a kingdom,

In the hearts of men.

And He’s coming back soon,

Though we know not when.

But when He comes,

Our deeds will be weighed.

What’s bad; forgotten,

And what’s good; stayed.

But you must trust,

In the blood of the Lamb.

Everyone who’s rejected,

Will be told to scram.

Fear not ye,

Who know Him not.

Salvation’s expensive,

But freely got.

The reward of Christ,

Is offered to you.

Fall at His feet,

And confess He is true.

Then true purpose,

You will find.

And eternal life,

With the Divine.

This earth will soon,

Be dust and ashes.

So come to Christ.

Fear not the masses.

Salvation is,

By grace alone.

Now come and fall,

Before the throne.
