He Has Swallowed Up Death

He has swallowed up death;

Devoured it whole.

He’s worthy to break the seals,

And open the scroll.

The cup of suffering,

Of which you and I sip,

He drank down to the dregs;

There remains not a drip.

The Lord is a warrior,

Yahweh is His name.

He is bold and courageous;

Of His glory I proclaim.

He created us for,

Full joy and sweet life.

But you and I,

Instead chose strife.

However, because,

He’s eternally gracious,

He pursued us in love;

With determination, tenacious.

King Jesus descended,

To this fallen earth.

Though we are dust,

He assigns us great worth.

There is only One,

Who can approach the Most High.

Christ Jesus alone,

For humanity did die.

The Lion of Judah.

The conquering, slain Lamb.

It is by His grace alone,

Mankind can withstand.

The day of judgment,

When He will return,

To right every wrong,

And banish evil to burn.

The problem for us,

You and I both,

Is we too deserve this,

Though to admit it we’re loathe.

But the good news is,

That God has done,

What’s impossible for us,

By giving His only Son.

Like the days of the flood,

When Noah built an ark,

God’s provided a way,

For us to embark.

If we will harken,

Unto His word,

Our sin which so darkens,

Will to His Son be transferred.

He’s magnificently gracious,

Loving and just.

To have our debt paid for sin,

We have only to trust.

To trust in Jesus,

That He died and rose again.

None of our deeds can save us;

Let the redeemed say, ‘Amen!’

He has trampled our sin,

And cast death down.

Take refuge in Jesus,

And receive your free crown.

If you fall at His feet,

He will lift you up,

You will be brought to the banquet,

And with the King of kings sup.
