Time marches on,
No matter how we strive,
Against it we’re defenseless.
Time passes day by day,
And anything we’ve built,
No matter how we bray,
Eventually does wilt.
But why does this haunt us?
Why struggle and lament?
We’re unique in creation;
Animals do not so vent.
Could it be that we,
Were really made to last?
This is why we weep,
That our days will soon be past.
We were made for Him,
The eternal God.
Made in His good image,
For eternity to trod,
Holding hands with Him,
Strolling in His garden.
Made for Him to love,
But instead our hearts we hardened.
He did not reject us;
It’s we that have scorned Him.
We did not respect; thus,
It’s we who have left Him.
We believed a lie;
That He doesn’t know what’s best.
From the Rock who bore us,
Ourselves we did divest.
We have separated,
From Him, the true Vine.
Cut ourselves off from the source,
Of eternal life divine.
How can a branch,
Once cut off from the tree,
Do anything but wither,
When tossed into the sea?
He alone is Lord,
Of life and perfect light.
Apart from Jesus Christ,
We’re lost in this dark night.
Thank our God in heaven,
He is merciful and gracious.
He swallowed up our leaven,
And offers life palacious.
It is in Him that we,
Who thirst for love and life,
Will find a safe refuge,
And freedom from all strife.
The Lord, He is so loving,
He suffered in our place.
He paid our debt for sin,
That we might live in His space.
He covers and surrounds us,
With His loving arms.
He rescues and redeems us,
From life and sin’s cruel harms.
If now you and I,
Choose to trust in Him.
At the end of this dark road,
Eternal life begins.
We’re not too far off now.
There is not long to go.
What Lord Jesus tells us,
It surely must be so.
The passage of time now,
Need not suppress our joy.
For all who trust in Jesus,
Death no longer does employ.
