One day among many,
As I suffered in pain,
Death whispered to me,
Its old lies again.
“Peace is here for you,
An end to your trouble.
Come join the grave;
Persist not in this struggle.
Why should you have,
To suffer and groan?
Bring an end to this now,
And no more bemoan.”
At first as I pondered,
This seemed to make sense.
Why should I continue,
In misery so intense?
It seems there’s no shelter;
No refuge at all.
A reason to stay here,
I cannot recall.
Then a bright Light,
Pierced through the gloom.
Death’s siren was silenced,
As a great voice did boom.
“Be silent now, grave;
You wicked, old liar.
Tempt not my children,
To build their own pyre.
You are defeated;
Your head I have crushed.
Victory I completed,
After my blood gushed.”
Then Jesus turned,
With love in His eyes.
He said, “Listen to Me.
You must death despise.
This life is a gift,
Even one spent in pain.
What you’ve lost now,
Is your eternal gain.
Lean into Me child;
I’m with you my son.
I will not forsake you,
As this race you run.
Weep on my shoulder.
Wail into my chest.
But trust that I love you,
And know what is best.
On earth you’ll have trouble;
Yes this is true.
But through this brief struggle,
Much good I will do.
My kingdom is coming,
Eternal life and much joy.
Yet still there are others,
Locked in death’s employ.
Tell them, my child.
Proclaim of this gift.
There’s good news for captives,
And my return will be swift.”
Forgive me my Lord,
For heeding the foe.
Help me to be faithful,
In my short time below.
The days of my life,
Are in Your good hands.
Please help me to follow,
Your loving commands.
My life is Yours,
Good Master please use me.
I set no conditions,
And submit fully to Thee.
