The High King of Heaven;
The Ruler of earth,
Gave for us His own life;
A gift of priceless worth.
When Death came to claim us,
For we are its property,
The Good Shepherd stood up,
And said, “No, take me.”
We are His creation;
The sheep of His fold.
To redeem us from sin,
He took measures quite bold.
King Jesus the Gentle;
Our Lord gracious and kind,
Would not permit us,
To be lost from His mind.
Though we have all sinned,
And are now slaves of death,
The Good Shepherd descended,
To give up His own breath.
He was born of a virgin,
Fully God and man;
Full of grace and truth,
Since before time began.
He lived the perfect life,
You and I never could.
Though He didn’t deserve it,
He was nailed to the wood.
The beam of the cross,
He carried on His back,
Held the full wrath of God,
For our sinful hearts black.
Yahweh is the Judge,
Of the whole universe.
To ignore our sin,
Would make Him perverse.
He is perfect and holy;
He is mighty and just.
To restore us to Him,
To pay our sin was a must.
His name is Justice,
But also Mercy and Grace.
For this reason He came,
To die in our place.
We are His inheritance,
His beloved birthright.
For this reason our Shepherd,
With Death did fight.
Like a wolf Death did come,
For us to devour.
But the slain Lamb of God,
Trampled down its dark power.
What a gift this is,
That Yahweh the Divine,
Would shed His own blood,
And tell us, “You’re Mine.”
A gift of priceless worth,
Like the world’s never seen.
King Jesus the Christ,
Did us sinners redeem.
