Joy in our sorrows,
And peace in life’s storms;
These things Jesus gives,
As our heart He transforms.
In life we have grief,
And much suffering we bear.
For this reason we ask,
“God, do you care?”
But the weight that we feel,
Comes not from Jesus.
It’s the weight wrought by sin,
That does so grieve us.
The suffering we face,
And the tears that we shed,
Are why Jesus descended,
Wept, suffered and bled.
To bring us joy in sorrow,
In suffering and pain,
He joined in our sorrow,
So that us He might regain.
He has borne our sorrows,
And defeated Death.
He has given us life,
By giving up His own breath.
Now though we still struggle,
Down here below,
King Jesus the gentle,
Sustains and helps us grow.
For the wind that blows fierce,
And shakes mighty trees,
Serves only to strengthen,
Those who trust Jesus’ decrees.
For He has so spoken:
“Come now to Me,
All you weary and heavy laden,
Life and rest I guarantee.”
This means what we face,
Here on this cruel earth,
Drives us closer to Jesus;
The Pearl of great worth.
Hold fast now to Him;
Fix your eyes on His face.
He’ll wipe away every tear,
And envelop you in an embrace.
This world is indeed dark;
We know this is true.
But the true Light, King Jesus,
Has drawn near to you.
He brings joy in our sorrows,
And comfort in our pain.
We’ll soon come home to His kingdom,
And never know suffering again.
If the bread you’ve received,
Is that of affliction,
Consider the result,
Of our Lord’s own crucifixion.
The storm will soon pass,
The dark gloom will be riven,
For Christ Jesus the Son,
Has conquered and risen.
