A Land Without Sorrow

I want to live in a place,
With no suffering or tears;
A land without sorrow;
Bereft of all fears.

I want to dwell in a kingdom,
With no pestilence nor pain;
Where there’s no need for doctors,
Or sickbeds for the lame.

For to dwell on this earth,
Is to know suffering and grief.
Both the rich and the poor,
Alike need relief.

This world gives no refuge;
No hope of safe haven.
All will drink deep of sorrow,
Both the brave and the craven.

We cannot get out,
The way has been shut.
We are trapped in death’s cage,
And out we shall not strut.

The only hope,
For both you and me,
Is for One from outside,
To come and set us free.

Hear this and take heart;
My friend, do not despair.
For God’s only Son,
Descended into Death’s lair.

His name is Jesus,
And He took on flesh.
He joined in our weakness,
That us He might refresh.

He came down from heaven,
That pure blessed place,
To bear all our sorrow,
And give us truth and grace.

Though He lived perfect,
For our sin He paid the debt.
The Lord of all heaven,
Bled, suffered and wept.

Though nailed to a cross,
And buried in a tomb,
Three days later He rose,
In victory over the gloom.

Death could not hold Him;
He devoured it whole.
God Himself suffered,
To pay our ransom in full.

Now all who trust Jesus,
Will be set free,
To forever live in a land,
Full of joy and jubilee.

For in His kingdom,
There’s no suffering or tears.
All who live there no longer,
Know pain or fear.

Come now to Jesus;
Accept His free redemption.
All who trust and confess,
He welcomes without exemption.
