This Word Is Uncommon

I beseech You my Lord,
Please hear my request.
For I know that all things,
Exist at Your behest.

Do not let Your Word,
Become common to me.
For in Your Word I found life;
You have set my soul free.

In the beginning,
All was dark and void.
But the Light of God shone;
Grace and truth were deployed.

The kingdom of darkness,
Then faced an assault.
God’s only Son came,
To bring it to a halt.

The Dark couldn’t comprehend,
The Incarnate Word.
Why would God take on flesh,
Live, die and be interred?

He did so for love,
And to show His good glory.
He created us all,
To enjoy an eternal story.

The story He offers,
Is one of life, joy and love.
Though our sin caused a rift,
God came down from above.

Because He is just,
The price for sin must be paid.
But because He is loving,
Our sin upon Him was laid.

Christ Jesus our Lord,
Became flesh and bone.
The Word from on High,
Chose to suffer and groan.

To pay for the sin,
Of both you and me,
He was spit on and beaten;
Stripped and nailed to a tree.

For we are all born,
As slaves of death.
To redeem and restore us,
God gave up His own breath.

This Word is uncommon;
He’s special and unique.
For us He was betrayed,
With a kiss on the cheek.

Though He did die,
On the third day He rose.
He trampled down Death,
And devoured sorrows.

All who thirst for new life,
Cry out to the Word.
For there is no doubt,
That you will be heard.

All who trust Him,
Will forever know pleasure.
For God’s Son, the Word,
Is an eternal treasure.

Come to the fountain;
It is to you He calls.
He defeated the Darkness,
And us to heaven He hauls.
