I’ve heard tell of a Man,
Who was born long ago.
He was acquainted with grief;
And drank deep of sorrow.
He claimed to be God,
And He’d die but then rise.
He said for all who trust Him,
Eternal life now applies.
This Man’s name is Jesus,
And indeed He did fall.
But after three days He rose,
To Sin and Death’s great appall.
He travelled around;
Hundreds saw and believed.
Out they in turn went,
Proclaiming good news they’d received.
Is this the Christ?
Can it truly be,
That God’s only Son,
Died for you and me?
Has Yahweh truly come,
And made for us a way?
Did He become flesh and blood,
For all our sin to pay?
Yes, indeed He has;
Christ Jesus is risen!
By the blood of His cross,
He’s freed all in Death’s prison.
The Messiah has come,
Fullness of God in man.
For our sakes He descended,
To do what only God can.
The penalty for our sin,
Against the eternal One,
Is an infinite debt,
We can never outrun.
We belong to Death;
Forever we are its slaves.
All will fall and be crushed,
By its cruel dark waves.
From God’s throne on high,
He looked on us with love.
He raged and He wept,
For He wants us above.
Humbly down He came,
And took on human flesh.
He was killed for our sin,
That our lives He might refresh.
Now His tomb is empty;
Sin is sunk, death is done.
Our ransom has been paid,
By Jesus, God’s only Son.
Truly this is the Christ;
The man that hung on a tree.
He conquered and rose,
Now by faith all are set free.
He looks on you with love;
And wants for you what’s best.
Come lay down your burden;
Know true peace and rest.
