Inside I feel empty,
Worn down and hollowed out.
Isolated, I stare blankly,
As the world turns without.
There’s people living life,
Bustling to and fro.
But mine’s been cut short,
By suffering and sorrow.
In anguish I writhe,
Upon my sickbed.
My ever constant companions,
Are the tears that I shed.
Countless tears I have wept,
As the drums in my head pound.
When I try to stand up,
I’m kicked back to the ground.
What is the purpose?
Why are we here?
Would it not be better,
To die and disappear?
This sadness is heavy;
Sorrowful unto death.
It is an effort, herculean,
To draw the next breath.
But lo, what is this?
A small, still voice,
Gently cuts through the gloom;
Offering to me a choice:
“Son of man, listen well,
To the words I will speak.
For I know your pain,
And the tears that you weep.
You are not alone,
And you never have been.
You, I have known,
Since your life did begin.
For every tear you have shed,
I have wept countless more.
Every blow you have taken,
Has pierced me to the core.
Though Me, you’ve known not,
You, I do love.
To raise up and restore you,
I came down from above.
For you I have died,
And risen to life again.
By My work I’ve redeemed,
Every soul born of men.
My name is Jesus;
I offer to you new life.
Eternal life in my kingdom,
Where there’s no pain or strife.”
His voice is so sweet,
So tender and gentle.
He holds back no truth,
Yet is not judgmental.
The choice is now ours;
From tears, joy we may reap.
For all who trust Jesus,
He counts as His sheep.
If in Him we have faith,
We are never alone.
To all that come to Him,
Is boundless grace and love shown.
Bring Him your sorrows;
Pour your tears at His feet.
Come rest in His comfort,
And know true love complete.
