The Cup of Christ’s Libation

The cup of Christ’s libation,
From which we freely drink,
Is filled with blood spilled by laceration,
Back from this thought we must not shrink.

Consider His blood shed at the cross;
To die for us He thought not loss.

He drank deep of our sorrow,
As He sipped on future joy,
To give us a new tomorrow,
Where Death no longer does destroy.

Jesus, our Lord and Savior,
Shows to us unearned favor.

The cup from which He drank,
Was filled to the brim with holy wrath.
Lifted up nailed to a plank,
His blood made for us a path.

Jesus drained this cup down to the dregs,
To fill our cups from joy filled kegs.

He died that we,
Might be forgiven;
To pay our fee,
And mend the bond sin’s riven.

Upon the cross Christ’s flesh was hewed,
By this, to us much grace He shewed.

Yet though He died,
He rose again;
Devouring Death He supplied,
Hope to all men.

To receive His precious gift we must,
Repent of sin and Jesus trust.

His invitation’s all inclusive;
A free gift offered to all.
Yet at the same time it’s exclusive,
We must only to Him call.

Jesus Christ is King of kings,
He alone salvation brings.

Trust in Him now.
Do not delay.
If Him you avow,
You’ll not decay.

Through faith in Christ, we’ve life eternal;
We will not know of Hell infernal.

With both hands take this costly cup,
Filled with blood Divine.
Drink deep and know that we will sup,
At the wedding feast of the Vine.

Come now to the Fount of hope;
No more in pitch black dark do grope.

All praise be to our risen King,
Who gave His life for us.
He quickens our dead souls to sing,
And of His love discuss.

For us Christ faced Death’s hammer blow,
And all our sin He did swallow.
