Many tales and great stories,
On this earth I have heard told.
But they in all their glories,
Are surpassed by the First One from of old.
Every story must begin,
And therefore needs a Cause.
So for the first start to have been,
We need a Cause that always was.
I speak of our Creator;
The First Cause to start what is.
Lord of all, there’s no one greater;
His name’s Yahweh and all is His.
He’s the Is that always Was,
And the Was that will always Be.
The Source of love who made all because,
He wanted to love you and me.
He made mankind to love,
And enjoy life inside His garden.
But we didn’t trust God above,
And against Him our hearts we hardened.
By our sin we made the choice,
To reject the Vine from whom we sprung.
Distrusting Life we chased Death’s voice;
Into the grave It has us flung.
Now we are all born slaves,
To sin and death eternal;
Doomed to drown under dark waves,
And languish in Hell infernal.
But harken to me, Friend,
For the story is not over.
Do not into despair descend,
For to us God is a gracious Trover.
Yahweh descended from on High;
To reclaim us He took on flesh.
Jesus left heaven to supply,
Light and life to us afresh.
He gave His life that we might live;
Beaten and nailed upon a tree.
The Is that Was did His blood give,
To pay our debt and set us free.
He trampled Death and rose,
Back up to life again.
He hasn’t left us in dark throes;
He conquered Death to save all men.
Jesus is the King of kings,
And with His kingdom He’s returning.
By grace through faith He brings,
Comfort and hope to all the hurting.
This story is the best,
Of any tale I have heard told.
And I tell you it is true;
Do not think me overbold.
King Jesus is the Christ;
The Is that always Was.
For our sin’s debt His blood sufficed,
To snatch us from Death’s jaws.
