The world we live in was made,
By the Lord of light and love.
Yet we feel the edge of sin’s blade;
Into our lives darkness does shove.
It’s as if we are told,
By evil itself,
Like dough we’ll be pressed and rolled;
Forever chained to death’s shelf.
At times it feels like,
To sin we must give in;
Resistance feels like a strike,
Violently on the chin.
The lie that sin tells us,
Is to obey God would be bad;
That to love and trust Jesus,
Will make us miserable and mad.
I know this dark feeling,
Myself all too well.
One such experience left me reeling;
I’m convinced it came straight from Hell.
The weight of its malice,
Crushed me down to the ground.
To the only sure Ballast,
Desperate, I called aloud,
“Help me, Lord Jesus,
For my need is quite great!
You promised never to leave us,
Nor in darkness forsake.
This malevolent dark foe,
Is for me much too strong.
In this heavy battle throe,
I cannot last for long.”
Then I saw a flash of bright light,
As my Lord did appear.
The beast shrank back with fright,
As the Good Shepherd drew near.
“Peace now my child,
Rise and take up your shield.
Follow me into the wild,
We’ll smite this foe on the field.
For it is under the beam’s oak,
The sheep of My fold are strengthened.
This cretin will fade like smoke,
And your days shall be lengthened.”
Next, I beheld His power;
Judah’s Lion bared teeth and roared.
The dark one cringed and did cower,
Faced with our Sovereign Lord.
Jesus won a great victory,
And took me with Him that day.
Throughout all of history,
Strength and might He does display.
The dark may seem strong,
But the Light is far greater.
Jesus smites all sin’s wrong,
And raises gardens in its crater
Praise the Lamb that was slain;
Christ Jesus is risen.
Though in a tomb He has lain,
Now on the throne He does glisten.
Come now, join His side;
In love He beckons to you.
To you in haste He will ride,
To provide grace and rescue.
