See the man upon the tree,
Who in the world can this fellow be?
This is Jesus the Christ, who died for our sin,
To raise us to life, and welcome us in.
Do you mean to say, that we might go free,
Because God Himself, died for you and me?
That’s right my friend, for Jesus did win;
He delivered a shattering blow to death’s chin.
How can this be? For see, He is dead;
How can He again on this earth tread?
You see only in part, but not yet the whole;
He will not remain dead in the place of the skull.
Do you mean to say, He’s the heavenly Bread,
And that He will truly rise up from the dead?
Quite right my friend, for this is His role,
To rise in three days after death on a pole.
You mean to say then, that Heaven He left,
On purpose to be struck and of breath bereft?
Indeed I do, for He’s selfless and true;
He laid down His life to save both me and you.
The Rock of Ages, Himself then has been cleft,
In order to bear the full brunt of sin’s heft.
Yes, Christ our Lord, was pierced straight through,
In order to raise us up to life anew.
Now that He’s risen, in order to receive,
All we must do is trust Him and believe?
You are correct, for Christ, He is God;
Though perfect, with our sin and shame He was shod.
This is marvelous news, what a blessed reprieve;
A love selfless like this I could never conceive.
I share your joy friend; let us rise and applaud,
Christ Jesus the King who over death has trod.
