Work Will Cease To Be Toil

This world has seen corruption,
Touch and taint everything.
But one day with stark abruption,
Will see the return of the King.

All good things here are marred,
And subjected to decay.
Such as work that has been scarred,
And become a toilsome dismay.

But work was not always so;
It is itself a precious gift.
It’s important that we know,
Our sin has caused a rift.

King Jesus will remake the Earth,
And work will cease to be toil.
We’ll face each sunrise with mirth,
And gladly cultivate the soil.

New cities will be built;
Green garden spaces will abound.
Nothing will rust, decay or wilt;
Peace, love and joy, will us, surround.

There’ll be no end to new songs,
And we will feast and dance each night.
To all who’re crushed ‘neath this world’s wrongs,
Look now to Jesus, the true Light.

He stepped down into the darkness,
To resurrect and ransom us.
He bore the full brunt of sin’s harshness;
Now of His glory we discuss.

We were doomed to die and suffer,
Forever in Hell for our sin.
But Christ came to be our buffer;
To raise us to life with Him.

Like a rudderless ship we drifted,
And were tossed about at sea.
But our gracious God has gifted,
Rescue and hope to you and me.

Though we were trapped and tossed about;
Battered by the wind and waves,
From the cross in victory Christ did shout;
Now those who trust, He gladly saves.

Now we have a hope and future;
Eternal life to us is given.
His wounds are for us a suture,
To restore what our sin has riven.

Come now one and all,
To Jesus Christ the King.
Though into darkness we did fall,
We’ve been raised up to live and sing.
