God’s Relentless Love

In the early days,
Before the forming of each nation,
Our forebears chose wicked ways;
Rejecting God and choosing damnation.

They were told to be fruitful,
To multiply and subdue the Earth.
Instead they took actions, rueful;
Forsaking Him who gave their lives birth.

They said to one another,
“What need have we for God?
His yoke of love does smother,
We should not with loyalty to Him be shod.”

So they forsook our Heavenly Father,
And worshiped created things.
They did not give the Source of life honor,
But chose the path that only, death, brings.

Then they devised to gather ‘round,
And build a great tower,
That would reach Heaven from the ground,
Displaying their own great power.

They forgot the Rock who bore them,
And worshipped gods of their own making;
But from the True Vine they did stem,
And it was His glory they were taking.

So, God gave them what they wanted;
And scattered them throughout the Earth.
Because disloyalty to Yahweh they had vaunted,
They became subject to things that have no worth.

But Yahweh’s love, it is relentless,
He did not forsake us in our fall.
In order to save us and circumvent this,
To a man named Abraham, He did call.

God told him, “I know that you are old,
But from you I will raise up a nation.
From you a Root will sprout as I’ve foretold,
And save my people from damnation.”

Then indeed, a nation God did raise,
And the centuries passed by.
Until one day began the next phase;
To our rebellion, God gave His loving reply.

Through Israel He came;
He was born fully God and man.
Jesus, our God, became,
Flesh to bear our sin; it was His plan.

He left behind the perfect splendor,
Of high and holy Heaven above.
To be for us a defender,
He laid down His life in love.

Then He rose back to life,
And now all who in Him trust,
Are cleansed of sin and strife,
And raised to life up from the dust.

God is relentless in His love;
To all He wants to show much mercy.
He descended in weakness like a dove,
To quench our souls that are thirsty.

Come now and join Christ’s Kingdom;
Be redeemed and claim your Heavenly crown.
Our God could not be more winsome;
He’s unrivalled in love, grace and renown.
