Vessels

For what we say and do, we will give an account.
We were made for a purpose; we’ll all answer to life’s Fount.

Let us endeavor not, to do our tasks slightly,
But as unto Him; let us do things rightly.

For each of us are vessels, created for a purpose.
Yet we each fall short of good and perfect service.

We’ve not loved God with whole hearts, let alone our fellow man.
We have flat out rejected the Creator’s master plan.

So what is God to do, with a rebellious, sinful vessel?
What would any craftsman do, when his creation with him does wrestle?

Most would start again, and destroy the old lump of clay.
But our Maker, the Lord Jesus, decided on a different way.

In all things He does, He’s perfect, loving, good and just,
But in our sinful blindness, we did not in Him trust.

So our connection to Him was severed; we rejected the Source of life.
Now we’ve fallen and been shattered; our existence, with death, is rife.

But our God would not abandon us to die in our sin.
He came to pay for our redemption and cleanse us out and in.

For Yahweh is rich in mercy; His heart overflows with love.
To save us He came to suffer, setting aside the splendor of above.

He chose to die for us and fully pay our sinful debt.
The high and holy King of Heaven, into the pit, death, has swept.

Now, though we are vessels, broken and emptied by our fall,
We can be raised and filled with life, if we answer Jesus’ loving call.

Now that we’re raised He fills us up, with the Holy Spirit, love and grace.
As redeemed vessels, filled by the King, through us He shows the world His face.

For this is indeed our purpose, to glorify our God.
We’ve been made in His image, to reflect Him as through this world we trod.

So come now to the Fountain, and be filled with Living Water.
To bring us up the holy mountain, our God rose victorious from the slaughter.
