What Do I Know?

I have been brought low,
But what do I know?
Jesus is with me wherever I go.

He’s our eternally existent Creator God,
Who left Heaven’s splendor to on Earth with us trod,
And in our place for our sin faced the rod.

The problem is that against God we’ve all sinned,
And for this justly in the grave we’ve been pinned,
Yet on us our good, gracious God still has grinned.

Seeing us dead in sin He did not turn and flee;
He joined us amongst the dust and debris,
To shield us from wrath and pay our penalty.

The One who created all of time and space,
Descended to us full of truth and of grace,
To wrap us in His selfless loving embrace.

To hold us He had to spread His arms out wide,
Be nailed to a cross and be pierced through His side,
So that payment for our sin could be supplied.

For this reason on Earth as I suffer and groan,
And lament that all the reasons why can’t be known,
I am confident that all who trust Christ aren’t alone.

Jesus loves us so much He was nailed to a cross,
So, as in this world we face heartache and loss,
We know for sure, us, aside He will not toss.

Our God who willingly went into the grave,
And rose up again, for He’s mighty to save,
Will never abandon the sheep He forgave.

He who did not withhold His only Son,
Who battled with death, and then conquered and won,
Will complete the good work in us that He’s begun.

There’s much I don’t know about how all things work,
But when pain pushes me to go berserk,
I rest in the knowledge that God will not shirk,

The promise made to all who in His Son trust,
Which is that He will raise them back up from the dust.
I know at all times He’s good, loving and just.
