All Must Drink

In this world all must drink,
From the cup of despair.
For in the end all shall sink,
Into the depths of death’s lair.

Never to be heard from,
Nor again to be seen.
All among us will succumb,
And sink into death’s ravine.

Life’s stage has been set,
And in the script we’ve no say.
Death’s axe has been whet,
To mete out endless decay.

All of us drink ‘cause we thirst,
But our cups are filled with ash.
Amongst the world’s best, we’re immersed,
In fleeting fancies; useless trash.

Yet for us there is hope;
God’s own Son has been given.
Though we fell down death’s slope,
All who trust Christ shall be forgiven.

Though we’re born trapped in darkness,
On us the Light has shown.
God joined us amongst the Earth’s harshness,
So that His love can be known.

For Jesus Christ, He is God,
Just as He has said.
He came to Earth, with flesh shod,
And men called out for His head.

They said, “You’re only a man,
But to be God is your claim!
Therefore here is our plan:
With stones we’ll send you to flame.”

But Christ did not respond to them,
With anger in kind.
For He came not to condemn,
But to give sight to the blind.

So with much humility,
The Most High bore each insult.
He chose to come with vulnerability,
To achieve His desired result,

That all who believe,
In Him might be saved,
And raised to new life,
To walk on streets with gold paved.

To do this the Son,
Drained the cup of God’s wrath.
So that from death we might be won,
With His blood Christ forged a path.

Because God is perfectly just,
He cannot ignore our sin.
But He joined us in the dust,
To pay our debt and bring us in.

Now that He’s drained the cup,
From which we’ve had but a drop,
By faith in Him we’re raised up,
To the Edenic mountain top.

So come now to Christ,
And of His living water drink deeply.
His life alone has sufficed,
To pay our sin’s penalty.
