To Whom Shall We Cry Out?

To whom shall we cry out,
In the darkest depths of night?
Unto whom can we shout,
When we are overcome with fright?

To Jesus, our God eternal,
We send up our desperate call.
Faced with despair infernal,
Petitioning, at His feet we fall.

Where are we to go,
When by pain we’re overwhelmed?
Where can us who’re trapped below,
Find help as we view death unhelmed?

We can turn our hearts to Jesus;
He is the true and living God.
He is our God who knows and sees us,
And carries us on shoulders broad.

For from us God is not distant;
He took on flesh to draw us near.
In loving us He is persistent;
All who trust in Him need not fear.

For though the breakers rage,
And the seas let out a mighty roar,
Death itself must from us disengage,
For in victory Christ’s blood did pour.

When the mast begins to crack,
As the stormwinds blow and howl,
Hold fast to Christ and don’t grow slack;
Fear not the beasts that lurk and growl.

Fear not, for God is with you;
He won’t abandon you to the grave.
All who trust Christ are made new;
Our risen Lord is mighty to save.

He is the God who hears and sees,
And has not remained afar.
He defeated death and guarantees,
To repair what sin and death does mar.

For though He was struck down,
Nailed to a cross and then entombed,
Now He’s risen and wears a crown;
In victory, death He has consumed.

Almighty God came from above,
To face such pain and humiliation,
Because His heart overflows with love,
And to save us was His determination.

Although in this world we’ve trouble,
Those who trust Christ are not alone.
He will carry us through the struggle,
And one day we never again will groan.

So come now all you who thirst;
All who’re bent low, bearing beams oaken.
Eternal life in Christ is dispersed,
And no promise of His will be broken.
