The Good Shepherd

The Lord Jesus is the Good Shepherd;
From many folds, one flock He calls.
The Shepherd who died and suffered,
To bring His sheep within His walls.

As sheep, we’re prone to wander,
Blindly into sin and danger.
But of us, Jesus could not be fonder,
And came to us by way of manger.

He is Heaven and Earth’s Maker,
And for us, He’s full of love.
To be our sin’s chain breaker,
He descended from above.

Faithless shepherds are all around us,
Who spread lies while wearing fleece.
But our Good Shepherd Christ Jesus,
Came to lead our jubilant release.

He came full of grace and truth;
The one true God incarnate as man.
Hardly did He progress past youth,
Before giving His life as was His plan.

Holy and innocent, God died for sinners;
Dragged outside the camp He was crushed.
To transform us who’re lost into winners,
Torn to shreds by wolves His blood gushed.

Before we think too harsh of the wolves,
We must remember we’re born of their pack.
And it is only Christ’s grace that pulls,
Us out of the dark to tread a new track.

So let us raise our heads and listen,
As we acknowledge our desperate need,
Heed His voice, be cleansed and glisten,
By our Shepherd who for us did bleed.

All His sheep hear His voice and follow;
To them He gives shelter and rest.
Because death itself Jesus did swallow,
Death shall not us out His hand wrest.

For Jesus and the Father are One;
Separate Persons but one in Essence.
Those whom the Father gives to the Son,
Will not fall prey to sin’s recrudescence.

The fact is every sheep needs a shepherd;
All have someone or something they serve.
But for those who trust Jesus, their record,
He’ll rewrite and their lives He’ll preserve.

If you hear this but know Jesus not,
Rejoice, for He truly loves you.
With His precious blood you’ve been bought;
Through faith in Him all are made new.
