Left For Dead

In the beginning we were made,
To hand in hand with our God walk,
But we rebelled and did what He forbade;
We harkened to the serpent’s talk.

We did not trust our God,
From Him we wandered far and wide.
We despised His gracious rod,
Now between us there’s a divide.

Complicit, we were led astray,
To tread sin’s woeful path.
We departed from our good God’s way,
Making ourselves subject to His wrath.

The frothing, foaming cup of fury,
Our loving, just God brews for sin,
Threatened to spill on us in a slurry,
As the serpent looked on with a grin.

For we believed a lie,
And did not trust God’s Word.
We left His table for the sty,
And just judgement on ourselves incurred.

Gleefully we have all followed,
Sin into gloomy depths of darkness.
Its baited hook we have all swallowed,
Forsaking life to become carcass.

Although we’ve fallen, there is hope,
For God loves us so intensely,
He placed His Son’s neck in our rope,
Showing to us grace immensely.

Sin had us wired up, chained up,
And left for dead on the road,
But Jesus ran to us and drank the cup,
When for our sin into death He strode.

Nothing to Christ can we bring;
From Him we receive all.
Christ the Lord is our King,
At whose feet we’re made to fall.

By sin we’ve all been left for dead,
But Jesus came to give us life.
He raises us up with Him to tread,
In a new world free of sin and strife.

The Lord God in Christ to us has come,
To bear our sin and bind our wounds.
All who trust in Him will become,
Fruitful trees bursting forth from tombs.

If hearing this you still draw breath,
Through faith in Christ, to God, hold fast.
The Son of God defeated death,
And His love for you is unsurpassed.
