As a boy I was taught, to look and listen the Lord;
Jesus Christ, the God of Life, whose love on us is poured.
But as I grew I began, to perceive and believe a lie;
That purpose and peace are found, apart from God, in sin’s sty.
I was nursed with pure, true milk; God’s life giving Word,
But I began to wilt, when I strayed from Him for sin’s herd.
The enemy beckoned to me, with soothing coos and painted face,
Saying, “Come join in our revelry; we’ll greet you with warm embrace.
Why serve ye, Yahweh; What good has He done for you?
For those who harken to Him, days of joy will be few.”
To my utter shame I listened, wandered and from God strayed;
My loving Shepherd Jesus, I disloyally betrayed.
When I first tasted sin, it briefly went down sickly sweet;
But hardly did I begin, when I retched from the tainted meat.
As I fell to my knees, the ones who led me thusly turned;
My strength fled amidst dry heaves, and only then did I discern,
Their painted masks had slipped, and revealed ravenous fangs;
They gathered round me once I’d tripped; calling forth hordes of beastly gangs.
Then I heard a mighty voice, gently whisper in my ear,
“Call to Me; make the choice, and find that I AM near.”
And so with a desperate bleat, this lost sheep called to Judah’s Lion;
Mercifully He answered sweet, with love and strength from Zion.
The beasts shrank back and screamed as the mighty Lion roared.
My terror turned to glee, as He routed them with His mouth’s sword.
Faced with the Word, the creatures turned and fled;
Once His truth had been heard, they ran from the Heavenly Bread.
For the Word is hammer, that shatters every power of Hell;
Those who trust Him will discover every lie of sin He does dispel.
Jesus raised me from the dust, and delivered me from my foes;
He cleansed me of my sin and covered me with priestly clothes.
Have you also been deceived; wandered into sin and despair?
All who invite Jesus in, will be rescued from death’s lair.
So call now to the King, the risen reigning Jesus Christ;
He will raise you up to sing, and forever to Him you’ll be spliced.
