The idea, “Move or die,
We weren’t made to sit still,”
Is ingrained in us, but why?
What need are we trying to fill?
Deep down we know we’re not enough,
No matter how hard we try.
Nothing we do can rebuff,
The knowledge that, ourselves, we can’t justify.
With what we have and haven’t done,
We have dug a deep pit.
And none of us can outrun,
The price for sin we all commit.
No matter how much good we do,
We cannot, our sin, erase.
In this our hearts speak true:
“We are unfit for sacred space.”
Death is what we deserve,
And for this reason all shall fall.
But harken now; this truth observe:
“In love Christ hastened to our call.”
Almighty God was born as man;
Fully Divine, He took on flesh.
This was God’s gracious plan,
That us with Him, He might enmesh.
And so Christ our Lord descended,
Selflessly, for us, to bleed,
Then accomplished what He intended;
He rose and all sin’s captives freed.
In this we can now see,
That although we were made to work,
Nothing we do can set us free;
We cannot justice shirk.
We have achieved our own destruction,
But, for us, God achieved salvation.
Christ’s blood removed every obstruction;
He’s worthy of our trust and adoration.
In agony Christ yelled, “It’s finished!”,
And stilled our soul’s disquiet.
The power of death, He has diminished,
So our restless hearts can now sit quiet.
But to rest we must be still,
And look up to the King of kings.
We must surrender our own will,
And drink from His living springs.
Nothing that we do,
Can ever undo what we’ve done.
We must confess Jesus is true,
And that He is God’s own Son.
Everyone who calls on Christ,
Is cleansed and raised up from the dead.
To cover our sin, His blood sufficed,
So come now, feast on Heaven’s Bread.
