Serve the Lord in secret,
Worship Him when no one sees.
When He gives you leave to, speak, but,
Come to Him daily; bend your knees.
Listen to the Teacher and go low;
Being famous isn’t Heaven.
What’s important is that you know,
The blood of Christ consumed our leaven.
Some, in His name, are given power,
Gifts of prowess, tongues or songs.
These should cause us, all the more, to cower,
Before the Giver of Life who sees our wrongs.
For He gives gifts to display His glory,
But so often we exalt ourselves.
When we try to be the center of the story,
It is away from God that our heart delves.
We all desire to be seen;
In this alone we do not err.
We long for this because we’re keen,
To know that someone, for us, does care.
This desire, given by Him from whom we’ve strayed,
Is for us a gracious prod.
For we all indeed were made,
To be seen, known and loved by God.
This need, unmet, helps us to see,
We are finite and we lack.
And so, faced with Christ on the tree,
We are left mouth open, taken aback.
Our desire to be known,
Deeply cherished, loved and held,
Has been met by the Cornerstone,
Who, on the cross, suffered and yelled.
“It is finished!” was His cry,
But what was it that He accomplished?
Jesus came, for all our sin, to die,
So that distance from Him would be demolished.
Do not seek acclaim from others,
For God Himself is watching you.
Our desires to be seen; these druthers,
Are met only in God, who loves us true.
It matters not who looks,
When we know, by God, we’re seen.
If you bite sin’s baited hooks;
You’ll be dragged into the “fear of man’s” ravine.
Heaven is not the same as fame;
It is to know, love and, with God, live.
Seek the Name above every name,
Who, for us all, went through death’s sieve.
