The First Attempt

This the first attempt,
Could be the last attempt
Got this seed Jesus sent,
It’s time to scatter it,
So please pull up, take a seat, and listen for a bit.
Let’s just acknowledge it,
Your man is in a pit,
But I’ve been gnawing on this bone and God said, “Son, go spit.”

The Most High gives us leave to speak at His good pleasure,
Please excuse me as I rhyme and flow on these measures:

I’m here to preach, you, Jesus, with love and no apologies.
He’s one before whom, Heaven, Earth and Hell will bend their knees.

Down here we all look high and low, but life can be a grind.
However I do want you to know that those who seek will surely find.

Because what we are searching for is happy, healthy, life,
But all we seem to find down here is sorrow, tears and strife.

We try to quench our soul’s deep thirst with the salt water of sin,
But what we do not realize is that by this death comes in.

We drink it up, we slurp it up, we roll in it on the ground,
But as we do we sink into a pit and soon we’ll drown.

When we first make an attempt to sin we do not realize this,
Our eyes light up and we reach out, not hearing the serpent’s hiss.

Once we sink our teeth into what God did not give us,
We depart the Way of life for Hell’s highway on Sin’s bus.

Please do not think I say this because I’m without sin,
I merely want to share that in Jesus we all can win.

For our God did not despise us once we fell into the grave,
He came down to revive us for He alone is mighty to save.

I tell you this because I know what it’s like to be sin’s slave,
But I learned once I’d tasted and seen, it’s Jesus that I craved.
