At first sin tasted a treat,
It went down sickly sweet,
But not much later then I realized I’d confused the beat,
And that I soon would meet,
With harsh reality,
And the lie I had consumed in fact would soon kill me.
My Mom and Father raised me right to praise the Lord;
The Fountain from whom life and light, on high is poured.
At first I listened to them and asked Jesus in,
But then I wandered from the flock and strayed right into sin.
The Devil whispered to me in this world I’d have fun,
As long I did not look at and listen to God’s Son.
He said, “You will not find contentment in truth, love and grace;
God is holding out on you; go and join your fallen race.”
Presented with this stumbling block, I fell face down.
I listened, looked and made the choice to drop my crown.
And with my empty hand I reached for what wasn’t mine;
I forsook and took sin’s baited hook; I rejected the Divine.
Once I was caught in the trap, the serpent turned and grinned,
Cackling, he looked and said, “Fool, now I’ve got you pinned.”
And so as I laid on the ground, sputtering in filth,
It was then I realized why Jesus’ blood was spilth.
The God-Man came down from above to die for me and you,
Of His fullness, truth, and love I gained a better view.
It was from the bottom of this pit I began to truly see,
That true love is found in the One who died for His enemies.
And so in desperation I called out to Jesus Christ,
He heard me, saved me, raised me, and forever to Him I’m spliced.
This same loving rescue is offered to one and all;
So adore Him, come before Him, life ends soon, do not forestall.
