This World’s Vanities

Down here we see God’s common grace, but also pain, and why?
Also we face the fact that in this world we all shall die,
Because we’ve been born in the mini-Hell I call “Sin’s Sty,”

As pilgrims we progress through vanity’s fair where many things glisten.
There are many anti-christs that tell us to look and listen.
And all of these new shiny things can serve to cloud our vision.

But pain, it is a teacher that grabs us by the neck,
It throws us down right on the ground and causes us to check,
And see the log protruding from our eyes’ not just a speck.

But rather it is a big weight that will cause us to drown;
And though this suffering brings to our face a sorry frown,
To learn of this is needed if we are to get a crown.

The suffering, it is a clue we’re born in a broken world,
And that to deliver us out, on Jesus wrath was hurled,
And then we see more clearly through this God’s love’s unfurled.

For Jesus Christ He is the Light who paid for all our sin,
And none of this world’s vanities can bring us up and in,
But only by faith in Jesus can we all be forgiven.

For we have all broken God’s law and now face condemnation,
But on the cross Christ’s blood was spilled to form a new foundation,
And He walked out of the dark tomb to make a priestly nation.

So come now to the Fount of life and let pain help you see,
The Word became flesh and came down to die upon a tree,
In order to give fresh new life unto both you and me.
