It matters not
What others have thought
About this poor wretch whom our God has bought.
My friend beware;
Do not give a care,
To other’s opinions; just don’t go there.
Their approval, don’t chase;
Instead turn your face,
To Him Who loves you, and died in your place.
The esteem of others must not be your bread.
To gorge on such fare, we must learn to dread,
Lest into despair and madness we tread.
What truly matters,
And fear of death shatters,
Is that our Lord’s flesh was rent, for us, in tatters.
This sorrowful news speaks of Christ’s love,
And of the reason He came from above,
That forever, away from us, death He might shove.
If ever others scoff at us and wink,
And into sadness and sorrow we sink,
Be encouraged by this; on it sit and think:
What matters most is that we’re on God’s mind;
He’s the Ruler of all Who is gracious and kind,
And our true value by Him is defined.
He deems us of such an invaluable worth,
That He sent His only Son down to this earth,
To die in our place and give us rebirth.
For though Jesus Christ did suffer and die,
He rose in three days, is seated on High,
And by grace through faith, good, long life does supply.
Also of this we must all be aware,
For this true thought indeed repairs our cares:
In Christ we all are made children and heirs,
Of God in Heaven, the High King of all;
The one before Whom all creation shall fall,
And bow before, at His good beck and call.
So bless the Lord Jesus, and seek not men’s praise;
On you and I He’s fixed His loving gaze,
And all who trust, from the grave, He shall raise.
