Jesus, we receive the crown of life,
Because You were crowned with thorns.
We are given shelter from sin and strife,
Because over us, who’re lost in sin, Your heart mourns.
You are the Lord of creation,
Who made us to love and know You.
We broke Your heart and chose damnation,
Yet still You love us through and through.
In love You came down in weakness;
Fullness of God in helpless child.
You dwelled amongst this world’s dark bleakness;
Though we rejected You, on us, You smiled.
You humbly left Your crown in Heaven,
To descend to be beaten and killed.
To wash away our sinful leaven,
Nailed to a cross, all of Your blood was spilled.
On that day the sky turned pitch black;
All Heaven wept and the curtain was torn.
Though Your dead body hung on the cross, slack,
You rose again on the third morn’.
By death itself You weren’t defeated;
That foe, You did rout on the field.
By Your power the victory was completed,
And now by Your stripes we are healed.
Forever, Lord of lords, You are crowned;
As King of kings, forever, You reign.
All of creation, with Your praise, does resound,
And Your loving kindness falls on us like rain.
Though we are born, to sin, shackled,
And have made ourselves enemies of You.
In love, us, You chased down and tackled,
To show us Your love that is true.
Salvation You offer most freely;
It is not by works but by grace.
Through faith You give life lived ideally,
In the light of Your marvelous face.
You raise us up out of the ash heap,
And crown us with Your light and life.
Though You sowed in tears, in us You now reap,
Redeemed sheep cleansed of sin and strife.
