Called to be Faithful

While we all desire to see success,
Our God calls us to be faithful.
From this we learn that true progress,
Doesn’t always, in the moment, feel quite gainful.

For, our God measures by a longer arc,
But we, in our finitude, are short sighted.
When we make, “It’s futile!”, our remark,
It is the Lord, we have indicted.

The Lord does not tell us all,
But He does tell us enough.
We must trust and at His feet fall,
As we travel through the rough.

From our lowly vantage sometimes it does seem,
Those who take sinful shortcuts get ahead.
At such times, lean into the beam,
And fix your eyes on the Heavenly Bread.

For Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world,
And down here we will face trouble.
But His vanguard advances as adversity’s hurled,
And for all the pain, the glory is double.

We are each called to serve a purpose;
We’re saved to be a blessing.
When things look hopeless on the surface,
Continue to, faithfully forward, be pressing.

Remember, Christ’s power is made perfect in weakness;
Consider how our Lord was crowned with thorns.
He conquered our sin with humble meekness;
Through such as these, many hearts, He transforms.

No servant is above their Master;
As we follow Jesus we will pass through death.
However, death, to us, is not a disaster;
But rather, the doorway to eternal breath.

Measure success not by the world’s standard;
Know that to succeed is to, in faith, press on.
If you are sick, persecuted or slandered,
Remember, soon all these things will be gone.

We will dwell forever with our Lord in glory;
The pains suffered here will not count as loss.
They’ll rebound to joy in the next phase of our story,
And to our infinite lives add much gloss.

Our God Who sees what is done in secret,
Will reveal all one day in the light.
We each at times do feel weak, but,
Our Lord Christ will bring us through the night.
