Jesus drank the cup of God’s wrath,
So our’s could overflow with joy and gladness.
He’s removed every obstacle from our path,
And washed us clean of our sin and badness.
With our sin we accrued a debt;
An arrear we could never pay.
We were caught and held fast in death’s net,
And, to the grave, we would be hauled away.
But our loving Lord God, High King Jesus,
Whose heart overflows with much mercy,
Came down to Earth to set free us;
Now we express, to Him, heartfelt gramercy.
To eradicate our sinful leaven,
Only blood of the Divine would suffice.
All praise to our Father in Heaven,
Who gave His Son to pay our ransom price.
God who’s rich in mercy and love,
Is also perfectly just.
For this reason He came from above,
To dwell with us in the dust.
He who rules with absolute justice,
Could not then ignore our sin.
To do such would be an injustice,
And unjust, our God, never has been.
So the holy Judge of all creation,
Condescended from His lofty throne.
Clothed with flesh, He came to our location,
To, for our sin, suffer and groan.
He lived the perfect life we never could;
Therefore, He didn’t deserve to die.
But He was beaten and stripped, nailed to wood,
To just payment, for our sin, supply.
After He was killed and buried,
Jesus rose back to life in three days.
He defeated death and has carried,
Us out of the grave; to Him be all praise.
Christ drank the cup down to the dregs,
That, with wrath for sin, did froth and foam.
Now He’s poured out, on us, glittering kegs,
Of living water so we might not roam.
Come now to Christ and believe;
For sin, now, confess and repent.
By grace through faith, life, we receive;
Accept, now, God’s lavish present.
