Oh Lord, I want to live,
But right now living feels like dying.
Remove me from this dark world’s sieve,
And bring an end to all my crying.
This pounding pain in my head,
Has bent my face down low.
It’s made me envy the resting dead,
And overwhelmed me with sorrow.
Yet, as I sit and ponder,
I find, in this feeling, a helpful gift.
A gift of knowledge, I must not squander;
Let me not be petulant or miffed.
In pain and weakness exists a lesson;
A valuable glimpse of reality.
For, good health can tend to a repression,
Of mankind’s frail mortality.
The truth is we’re all dying,
From the moment we are born.
And hardship helps us by supplying,
Awareness that life, from us, will soon be torn.
For our sin, we lack absolution,
And this thought should make us solemn.
What’s more, to value the solution,
We must first see this problem:
The soul that sins shall die,
And of this we are all guilty.
Pain helps us see through sin’s lie,
And perceive we’re indeed filthy.
For, the just God of all creation,
In righteousness has decreed,
All who sin will face damnation;
Deep darkness from which they shan’t be freed.
But now having heard the bad news,
Rejoice to hear the good.
For mercifully, in love, God did choose,
To, for our sin, be nailed to wood.
Christ Jesus paid our ransom,
When He chose to die in our place.
He pulled us out the ditch into His hansom,
Showing us mercy and grace.
So, while it is a good thing,
Prosperity also can be blinding.
Let pain drive you under the Lord’s wing,
Where you’ll, unending joy and life, be finding.
From the temporary suffering here,
Jesus will bring good that is eternal.
Those who trust Him’ll live forever without fear,
And are saved from Hell infernal.
The Most High is good and loving;
He laid His own life down for us.
In hardship don’t Him, away, be shoving,
But run to and trust the Lord Jesus.
