On What Are We Feeding?

We all needs must eat,
But on what are we feeding?
Some things that at first appear sweet,
End up, our own souls, eating.

There is food that nourishes,
And food that tears down.
The one who understands this, flourishes,
And will not be consumed and drown.

While physical food is of import,
And bears careful consideration,
It is our soul’s food, I purport,
That can lead to greater devastation.

With what we meditate on and do,
We seek to satiate the soul.
In partaking of that which is true,
We receive life and are made whole.

But in gorging on what’s false,
That is, foolish fancies and worldly delights,
We open ourself up to sin’s assaults,
As dark passions it excites.

Sin enslaves and enchains us;
It never satisfies, but only wants more.
And apart from the Lord Jesus,
It will trap us forever behind death’s door.

For, Jesus is the solution;
The only One who can sate our appetite.
In Him we find absolution,
And what our souls were made to bite.

Christ is the Heavenly Bread,
That we were made to crave.
All who feast on this Divine Spread,
Will be saved from the grave.

The sin we have all eaten,
And for which we deserve to die,
Jesus was killed for and brutally beaten,
To, our ransom, supply.

Christ Jesus is the living God,
And for Him we were made.
That we might be saved and with Him trod,
In our place, down His life, He laid.

But in the grave He did not stay,
For, death could not, Him, consume.
He devoured death, and on the third day,
Strode victorious out of the tomb.

To feast on Him means to believe,
And trust Him as Lord God and Savior.
By grace through faith now receive,
This gift; you’ll taste no sweeter flavor.

Hallelujah to the Christ,
Jesus the Lord of all.
In love He deemed it not too high priced,
To die to save us from the fall.
