Lord, Be My Peace

Oh Lord, be my peace,
When fear threatens to overwhelm;
Wash white my blackened fleece,
And take command of my ship’s helm.

The seas have lifted up their voice,
And the wind is blowing a fierce gale.
But in You, Jesus, I’ll rejoice,
No matter how fierce the storm may assail.

You warned us we’d have trouble,
As we dwell in this world below.
But You also promised to lead us through the rubble,
And to be our peace amidst sorrow.

Lord Jesus, You are the light,
Who has, all darkness, overcome.
As You illuminate my path in this night,
I know, to death, I will not succumb.

For, You were not defeated,
When You descended to the grave.
Fully routed, death, from You, retreated;
It could not make You its slave.

It is You Who are the King,
And Master of this universe.
Knowing this, I’ve good reason to sing,
As through this world, with You, I traverse.

Though down here my body may die,
Nothing in this world can touch my soul.
I’m safe in the hands of the Most High,
Who suffered and died for me on a pole.

And even though my body,
Will one day, in the grave, rot,
Jesus Christ the Lord, my God, He,
Has promised my flesh won’t be forgot.

Yes, my soul is safe in His hands,
But my body will also be redeemed.
I shall live forever in undying lands;
This glorious truth is beyond anything I could’ve dreamed.

So then, life’s storms may blow and sputter,
But darkness shall not, my peace, rob.
The Lord Christ has pulled me out the gutter,
And He comforts me tenderly when I sob.

The pain of this life will end;
The dark night will give way to dawn.
Oh Lord, You’re my peace and greatest Friend;
And Your love, from me, will never be withdrawn.
