Debts Must Be Paid

What has been done, can’t be undone;
Debts must be paid, atoned for or covered.
And our debt for sin must be paid by God’s Son,
If, from death, we are to ever be recovered.

It matters not what good we do,
As it regards atonement.
Good deeds are good; it’s true,
But they can’t provide, for our sin, annulment.

Consider this: if a person guilty of murder,
Is exceedingly charitable on every other day,
Should justice, against them, be pursued no further?
Should they not still, for their crime, pay?

Of course they must be tried.
For, their charity will not raise the dead.
Justice, by their kind acts, cannot be supplied;
To the prison they must be led.

This being the case,
In our earthly courts below,
Can’t we then some correlation trace,
The higher up we go?

As there is no higher court,
Than that of our God in Heaven,
Should we expect God to, justice, abort,
When faced with our sinful leaven?

No my friends, it is a folly,
To think our holy God winks at sin.
But at the thought of our death, He is not jolly,
And He came to pay our debt clothed in human skin.

Our righteous Judge won’t subvert justice,
But since our debt, by us, never could be paid,
The God-Man lived a perfect life among us,
Before, in our place, down His life He laid.

Jesus Christ, the incarnate Yahweh,
In selfless love died on the cross.
Then He rose again on the third day,
Having consumed all our sin’s dross.

The only One Who can raise the dead;
Has achieved our redemption.
Now through faith in Him, killed in our stead,
We may receive a full exemption.

Christ has done what none of us could do;
He has paid our unpayable debt.
All who repent and confess He is true,
With open arms, by Him, will be met.
