The Master Will Return

Stay awake my friends, man your post; the Master will soon be here.
One day Christ will descend again as a trumpet sounds loud and clear.
None of us know when, but with each new day His return’s more near.

Though He is always with us, in another sense He’s gone away.
Jesus ascended back to Heaven, shortly after rising on the third day.
Now, for a short time before His return, His Spirit helps us to, His love, display.

We’ve been commanded to make disciples; our Lord’s given this commission.
His kingdom, though not yet here fully, advances with every addition,
Of men and women who trust in Him so, let’s be faithful in His rescue mission.

Mercifully He’s held back judgement that will come with His final advance.
For a time God’s delayed the end of this age, to give more sinners a chance,
To repent and receive His grace, and He’s using us in His kingdom’s expanse.

For this reason once we are saved, we are not taken home immediately.
We dwell for a time here below to serve our Lord obediently,
In sharing the good news of salvation, like others did with us previously.

Struggles here also work toward sanctification, as the Lord shapes us in His image.
Through this process we grow in grace, and more and more reflect Christ’s visage.
As we live and serve in this manner, in us the world can more clearly, Jesus, envisage.

Live not for the praise of men, but the glory of Him who bore our sinful blame.
For us Jesus laid down His life, and so following Him we must do the same.
Let us live not for our will, but His, as we despise all worldly shame.

The fields are ripe for harvest, and soon the Master will return.
Let us not be found idle, but take part in causing our fellow sinners to turn,
Away from sin and death to Christ, that they too might know eternal joy and not burn.
