“We’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time.”,
Is something I’ve heard people say.
This notion exists in varied place and clime,
And many tout it while they’re at play.
“Drink and be merry for soon we’ll die,”
Is perhaps a better known version.
These are merely some of Satan’s favorite lies,
Used in his incessant half-truth perversions.
Now, please allow truth to wash away the lie:
We’re not here for a long time, but we’ll exist forever.
It is true all under the sun will die,
But death is not the end of existence whatsoever.
With our last breath we’ll have completed a race,
That ends in one of two locations.
Some go to eternal glory, and others, disgrace;
I beg you, consider the following proclamations.
There are those who live for this world,
And give not a thought to tomorrow;
Into gloomy darkness they will be hurled,
Where there’s much bitter weeping and sorrow.
But those who lift their eyes to Jesus,
Living for Him and the world to come,
Are delivered from death, for, He frees us,
From slavery to sin; He paid our ransom.
To reject God’s kingdom for the pleasures of Earth,
Is like choosing mud pies over decadent cake.
His eternal kingdom will bring eternal mirth,
But this world’s fleeting delights lead to an ever burning lake.
Since it’s true, for a long time, we’re not here,
Why live for what we cannot keep?
The next stage of existence is so very near;
Don’t walk through this life fast asleep.
Wake up and see we’ve all sinned,
And for this we’ll be condemned to Hell.
But know God in love, on us, has grinned,
And on the cross in our place He fell.
He does not desire that we should perish,
So, to satisfy justice Christ died in our place.
Every one of us He does lovingly cherish;
For this reason He’s shown mercy and grace.
Live not today for what, tomorrow, will be rotten.
The seeds that we sow we shall reap.
By all who trust Jesus, eternal life, shall be gotten;
We’ll dwell forever in paradise and not weep.
