A sick person must not be offended,
To be told that they are so,
Or else they will never be mended;
Hard truths are important to know.
Trade not bitter truth for sweet lies,
Though it may for a moment be pleasant.
It is the soul who does this that dies;
Truth suppression is itself life’s suppressant.
So, hear me now, steel yourself and brace;
Against our God we have all sinned.
And for this we’ll forever suffer in disgrace;
In hell fire we’ll be eternally pinned.
Now, though this may have, your flesh, seared,
Receive this soothing, sweet poultice:
God’s own Son, Jesus, volunteered,
To die in our place so God would not smote us.
The Lord Who created all things,
Willingly was crucified and put in a grave.
For, He’s loving; Jesus, King of kings.
And He’s able and eager to save.
After three days He left the tomb;
Risen back to life, death He defeated.
Now when we call to Him from the gloom,
With loving kindness our cry is greeted.
Save ourselves, you and I surely cannot;
Sin against the Infinite incurs infinite debt.
But from death, with Divine blood, we’ve been bought,
As our sin, with grace and mercy, God met.
To reject this truth is to reject salvation;
For to be saved we need only believe.
Repent and trust Christ; accept God’s invitation;
All who do so, eternal life, will receive.
Do not stumble on the offending rock,
Of the truth that we all stand condemned.
Christ stands at the door of each heart and does knock;
Invite Him in and He will, your soul, mend.
This hard truth, though first bitter, when swallowed,
Becomes in us a well of eternal life,
Grows sweeter each day Jesus is followed,
And leads us to a land without fear or strife.
Repent of sin and trust Christ our Savior;
Our gracious God Whose heart’s full of love.
He delights to show undeserved favor,
And raise us to live with Him above.
