The Man Jesus Marveled At

The gospels are full of stories where people, by Christ, were amazed,
But there is also one in which, God Himself marveled and gazed.

The man Jesus marveled at was not praised for some righteous deed.
But for saying, “Lord, say the word, and in healing my servant You’ll succeed.”

This Gentile had built a synagogue, but this was not what Jesus commended;
Instead it was his faith, that by Christ’s power, his sick servant would be mended.

In seeing what amazed the Lord, we learn what we should value.
Righteous deeds are important and nice, but we’re not saved by what we do.

It is they who repent and trust Jesus, who’re redeemed and forgiven their sin.
If we attempt justification by works, we are doomed before we even begin.

For, the sin we have committed cannot be undone by doing good.
It is only atoned for by God’s Son Who, for us, was nailed to wood.

In selfless love Christ paid our ransom, and He justifies us by faith.
Now all can be saved from condemnation if they trust the words He saith.

It’s true good works are good, but works apart from faith do not please God.
If our righteous deeds could cleanse our sin, Jesus need not have faced the rod.

The only thing that can save us is the blood of the Divine.
The Lord eagerly desires to receive us, and for Him our hearts were made to pine.

It is only in God, our harried hearts will at last find rest.
All who confess and believe in Him, with eternal life, will be blessed.

“Lay your deadly doing down,” believe in Christ and you’ll be saved.
All who call to Him will no longer be, to sin and death, enslaved.

Crave the marveling of Jesus, the truly Marvelous One.
He is the Lord of all creation, Who assaulted death and won.
