Good and Bad Soil

God in Heaven made us from the soil,
And in us He sows His seed.
Those who hold fast His word and don’t recoil,
Bear much fruit and are not choked out by weed.

Our sin separates us from God;
The only Source of life and light.
But to us in the dark He has trod,
And He has overcome the night.

The Most High, the incarnate Word;
Jesus Christ, God Himself, took on flesh.
When we, His life giving words, have heard,
And believe in Him, us, He does refresh.

He Who created the very soil,
From which He raised us up,
Cleanses us of sin that does despoil,
So we may live with Him, reign and sup.

To our Lord belongs the initiative;
He is preeminent in all things.
But in His offer of forgiveness it’s implicative,
We must choose to accept the salvation He brings.

Our decision to receive or reject,
Christ’s Word, He described as soil, that’s bad or good.
The heart of good soil will choose to accept,
That for our sin He was nailed to wood.

But bad soil also exists,
And this is those who reject His word.
Of rock and thorn their heart consists;
It doesn’t take root, the truth they’ve heard.

While all of us in our sin,
Have become soil that’s nutrient deficient,
If we cry out to Jesus and invite Him in,
To make our hearts fertile, His grace is sufficient.

All who repent and believe in Jesus,
Will become forever a fruitful tree.
From slavery to sin and death He frees us,
And makes us the beautiful person we’re meant to be.

Break up the heart’s soil that’s rocky and hard,
With the plow of repentance and belief.
Trust Him Who rose after, for our sin, He was marred,
And know His tender love and sweet relief.
