The Fear of Man is a Snare

The fear of man is a snare,
And in this snare we’ve all been trapped.
We needs must be aware,
That by this, life, from us is sapped.

We are to fear God alone;
He is the one true Source of life.
While respect to our fellows must be shone,
To fear them, is to with God, have strife.

When we care for what others think,
And seek their praise and approval,
Into a miry bog we sink,
From which we desperately need removal.

Those who live for acclaim,
Will die from lack of it.
To exist afraid of worldly shame,
Is to sin, against God, commit.

For we must answer to our Master;
Not those down here who deride.
Though man’s scorn is a blow to our gastor,
Whom to serve, we must decide.

We must lay aside prideful folly,
And seek to honor God above.
When the world sends a hate filled volley,
Revile not, but respond in love.

Live to please the King of Heaven;
King Jesus Who’s risen and reigns.
Tis He Who in love consumed our leaven,
And gave us life through severe pains.

Our Lord has conquered death;
So in Him what have we to fear?
Christ has given us eternal breath,
And one day before Him we’ll appear.

To have reverent fear for Him alone,
Expresses our love and loyal belief.
He is good and much grace has shown,
Providing life and eternal relief.

Fear not them who can harm the body,
But Him who can raise or slay the soul.
He has not left us sinfully spotty,
But has cleansed and made us whole.

All glory to Christ our Lord,
Who’s worthy of all honor and praise.
By Him we are cherished and adored,
He is lovely and perfect in all His ways.
