Jesus is highly exalted,
Sing praise unto His holy name.
In our obligation to obey God we’ve defaulted,
But He was pierced for our sin and shame.
Jesus Christ, the Lord God Almighty,
Condescended to be beaten and torn.
Though He agonized in the garden that night He,
Obeyed the Father’s will and was crowned with thorn.
For this is how we, Him, greeted;
Us, His rebellious children lost in the fall.
Reverently, we should have, His advent, meeted,
But instead for His death we did call.
Even still while, on the cross, He was nailed,
He looked up to the Heavenly region,
And, “Father forgive them!”, He hailed,
Rather than calling down an angelic legion.
Behold Him crucified and bleeding;
The Son of God in glory lifted up.
Through this horror He was succeeding,
In fully draining the cup.
In love He bore all God’s wrath,
As, for us, He hung on the tree.
The work completed, now He’s forged a path,
For us to, from our sin, be set free.
We’re all born slaves to sin and death,
But Jesus walked out of the tomb,
Proving death could not take His breath,
And that He defeated the darkness and gloom.
Cry out now to Jesus the King,
Who is now, in Heaven, enthroned,
And into His kingdom He will, you, bring;
For all your sin, He has atoned.
Confess, repent, and in Him trust;
Jesus is eager and willing to save.
He loves to raise sinners up from the dust;
For this reason He went in the grave.
Hallelujah to Jesus our God;
The merciful Ancient of Days.
The redeemed forever will with Him trod,
And evermore sing of His praise.
To You Lord be all honor and blessing;
Before You every knee shall bow.
Eternally, Your glory, we’ll be confessing,
And let us be faithful to do so now.
