To the poor belongs the kingdom of God,
And those who hunger and weep will be blessed.
Christ our Lord went under the rod,
And now proclaims liberty to the oppressed.
He descended from Heaven, Jesus the Most High,
Because His heart’s full of love for the world.
Seeing us chained to sin He came to die,
In our place as on Him God’s wrath was hurled.
We’re all spiritually bankrupt and this means we’re beggars;
But many of us struggle to see our destitution.
This ignorance coupled with amassed worldly pleasures,
Can blind us to our need for a solution.
This does not mean the rich can’t be rescued,
But it means usually the poor more clearly see;
Those who’re impoverished and must do with less food,
Often readily accept they’ve a need to be free.
Whether in worldly terms you be wealthy or poor,
I pray you come to the conclusion,
For our sin we’ve all been locked outside God’s door,
And are in desperate need of a Divine blood transfusion.
The poor to whom God’s kingdom belongs,
Are they who first admit their spiritual poverty,
And then trust in Jesus; that He paid for their wrongs,
And in so doing are saved from calamity.
All who thus hunger and thirst for what’s righteous,
And come to Christ will be blessed.
By grace through faith, eternal life, He provides us,
And with the finest white robes we’ll be dressed.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain,
To receive all glory and honor.
All who trust in Him, He brings in His domain;
For we are the clay and He is the Potter.
Jesus Christ is the Lord God Almighty;
The uncreated Maker of Heaven and Earth.
And though hung on a cross and buried that night He,
Rose again and offers to us rebirth.
In loving mercy He did this for us all,
Because to sin and death we’re enslaved.
Though against Him we’re rebels, to us He does call,
And all who trust in Him will be saved.
