Would you drink from a vessel,
That is spotless and clean without,
If on the inside, instead of sterile,
It was coated with filth all about?
The Lord Jesus used this metaphor,
In speaking to the Pharisees.
He said, “You cleanse the outside but ignore,
Your hearts inside which God sees.
But hark, do you not know,
That to Him Who made the soul,
It’s what’s in man that does show,
For to God is revealed the whole?
Therefore cleanse the inner court;
Your heart, soul and mind.
From there now, all wickedness, deport;
Leave no filth for God to find.”
Here in the words of our Lord,
We learn that as vessels whom He’s made,
It’s that which inside us has been poured,
That to Him is displayed.
So then what are we to do?
For we have all drank deep of sin.
Is there any hope for me and you,
To be made clean within?
Praise be to God in Heaven,
For He, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Has devoured our sinful leaven,
And paid our ransom price.
By the power of Jesus’ blood,
Shed for us on Calvary,
We can be cleansed of all sin’s mud,
And from chains of death set free.
The innocent, righteous blood of Jesus,
Is mighty to, all men, save.
By His selfless sacrifice He frees us,
And all who call to Him will be forgave.
Once we have been saved,
We become temples in which His Spirit dwells;
Vessels no longer to sin enslaved,
But filled with living water, we are wells.
So let us overflow with His love and grace;
Magnifying Christ to others.
By His Spirit lets reflect Jesus’ face,
And share His truth that, fear and shame, smothers.
Lord Jesus, we beseech Thee;
Please cleanse us from the inside out.
You Who rose after dying on the tree,
Are our faithful and true Redoubt.
Forever You are exalted High;
Take Your place on the throne of our heart.
Burn away any part of us that, Your will, does defy;
Hold us close and never depart.
