Unworthy, Filthy and Unclean

“Unworthy, filthy and unclean;”,
These words accurately describe me.
But so do, “Beloved, cherished and seen.”
For, Jesus Christ has set me free.

What I say is not self-deprecation,
Nor is it simply self-loathing.
This statement is based on the predication,
That I have willingly donned sin’s clothing.

You see, I was created by God,
To love, honor and with Him live.
But I rebelled and into darkness trod;
Oh, to take it all back, what I wouldn’t give.

But sin’s debt cannot be erased;
We cannot, bitter water, make sweet.
Justice for our crimes must be faced;
For He is just, Who sits on the judgement seat.

But our Judge, in mercy, is rich,
And His heart overflows with love.
Seeing us languishing in death’s ditch,
He, Jesus, came down from above.

The water we’ve made bitter with sin,
He has purified with His blood.
So that, His kingdom, we may come in,
God’s grace, this Earth, did flood.

Our debt for sin has been paid;
Jesus has done what we could not do.
Our God made a selfless trade,
Showing us love pure and true.

Because we’ve all sinned I say rightly,
“We’re unworthy, filthy and unclean.”
But grasp this next truth and hold tightly,
“With eyes of love, by God, we are seen.”

He did not die for our sin to judge us;
Christ laid down His life for our salvation.
Our merciful, loving God, Jesus,
Cares for us, His precious creation.

He knows each of us by name,
And each of us by Him is cherished.
For this reason He shouldered our blame,
And on the cross, in our place, perished.

We must first understand we have sinned,
For, diagnosis must precede prescription.
But hear this, God has looked on us, grinned,
And placed on us this new description:

“You, my children, are beloved.
Repent of your sin and come to Me.
Trust in Christ, and death, from you, will be shoved.
For I paid your debt on Calvary.”

Everyone, in Christ, is a new creation;
All who trust Him have their sins washed away.
To one and all, no matter their situation,
Jesus alone is the Life, Truth and Way.
