We Have a High Priest

From God’s law everyone is a deviator;
So, to approach Him we need a mediator;
But no mortal can approach the Lord Most High;
For any who do so will surely die.

Although we in our sin are inadequate,
God Himself has provided an Advocate.
We have a High Priest Who became like us;
Fully human and God is the Lord Jesus.

Jesus is Yahweh, the one true God,
Who took on flesh and on Earth trod.
Because He is rich in mercy and love,
Almighty God came down from above.

He became mankind’s perfect representative.
To perform a work that, for our death, is preventative.
For we have sinned and earned death’s wages,
But Jesus’ sacrifice fully God’s wrath assuages.

He was tempted and tried but did not sin.
Now He helps us, when tempted, to conquer and win.
He is not indifferent to what we face;
He Himself has gone through it and gives much grace.

Even though tempted to the point of shed blood,
Not even once was He stained with sin’s mud.
But He knows we are weak and made of dust,
And seeing us is not filled with disgust.

He endured the suffering and horror of the cross,
To pay for our sin and consume our dross.
Out of love for us He willingly died;
It was always His plan to be crucified.

He also purposed to rise from the grave;
Christ is majestic, holy and mighty to save.
He has mediated between God and man,
Completing the work of salvation as was His plan.

Now He gives eternal life to all who believe.
It’s His joy and delight to, us, receive.
Through faith in Christ we can be restored,
To relationship with God by Whom we’re adored.

So trust in Jesus, our faithful High Priest;
Be, from sin and death’s chains, released.
It is His desire to cleanse and save you.
For even unto the grave, us, He did pursue.
