The Freedom of Serving

Lord, please give me the freedom of serving only You.
Uproot every sin that, from my wicked heart, grew.

Jesus, cleanse my mind and purify every desire.
Clear the briar patch of my heart with Your holy fire.

Bind me with cords of love and lead me in triumphal procession.
Help me to live wholly for You, for I’m Your ransomed possession.

I was born and lived in bondage to sin and the devil.
But now I belong to you, and in this new freedom I revel.

Still though for now I struggle against my fallen flesh.
But day by day You sanctify me and give grace afresh.

Though I stumble, still I walk, in righteous paths You have prepared.
I’m no longer a slave to sin nor by the devil ensnared.

Whenever I fall face down, You always pick me up,
Because from Heaven, You came down, and fully drained the cup.

Lord Jesus, You bled for the world’s sin willingly on the cross.
You descended into darkness grim to burn away our sinful dross.

You fully paid our debt when You suffered and died.
While exalted on the cross, “It is finished!” You cried.

You rose up from the grave, and set the captives free.
Now we all can be forgave, because of Your death on Calvary.

We can be set free from sin and raised to life in You;
Become who we were made to be, and Your family enter into.

And for this short time here below, we’ll serve You in this fallen world.
Let Your light through us glow, as to and through us Your love is hurled.

Grant us the blessed freedom of serving You in humble submission.
For true freedom is found in You and not in our old condemned condition.

Help us see sin as fetters that bind and lead to destruction,
And in You we bear no scarlet letters, but are made a beautiful new construction.

Oh Lord Jesus, in Your presence is fullness of joy for evermore.
Continue to shape me in Your image on my way home to Heaven’s shore.
